See....even spell-check doesn't understand. I guess what you'd really like to know, is what i'm talking about.

This anonymous creature is the name of a band - The Malchicks to be precise. Their are two Malchicks, Scarlett (who sings) and George (who strums), at 16 years old, talent doesn't come much fresher than this. The band's album has been long in the making, they first performed at London's 100 club for the launch of Martin Scorcese's blues films at just 13, but a long line of problems with line-up, label and manager meant that an album had to be postponed. Until now.

To Kill A Mockingbird, their debut, was released last week. It's been a long and painful process but The Malchicks have already proved they can handle the pressure. Songs such as "A Taste Of Honey" and "Thirteen" are perfect for Scarlett's deep, dusky vocals, sang over perfectly executed Spanish guitar. The album is available now from Amazon.co.uk, or see them live on the upcoming All Light Up tour.

New Tricks

Who ever said that they had lost hope in tomorrow's generation? Well, there may be a small glimmer of hope in the form of One Trick Band. The mops of perfect indie curls and the scent of North London lingers on the five fifteen - year - olds, but don't let that fool you. Telecasters in hand, they're quickly establishing themselves in their local North London music scene.

After doing several school competitions, the band decided to make some real music of their own. The result includes "Red Light", which was recently featured as a demo for Steve Lamacq's show on Radio 1. Fast, chirping guitar mixed with a voice only teenage kicks could produce, One Trick Band could just be the new sound for us teens. So go listen - over-20's needn't bother.

Fortunately...

Aah. I know I should have written, but who's reading? I do have some nice new sounds to tempt the invisible readers though. Firstly, the best thing to come out of Telford....well, ever. Who you ask? - Lady Fortune, that's who. The threesome have been attracting attention with their brand of indie/garage/pop, and not unjustly either.

Paul, Nicholas and Lyndon started the band in early 2005 after they realised "most things are really really boring", and quickly built up a dedicated, if small, fanbase. Playing poppy indie with a rough edge, they have supported the The Automatic, The Paddingtons, Bromheads Jacket, The Young Knives and The Rumble Strips to name but a few. All this, of course, would be nothing without the backing from Steve Lamacq and Colin Murray, who have featured the band on their shows.

The band's first single is out later this year. I predict good things.

State Rules

First, I must apologise for not writing for two whole days, it was NOT because I didn't know what to write. *cough*.

Anyway, after perusing some new bands, most of whom were not brilliant, I finally found music to my ears. The Attika State are a band from Slough/Bristol who are a mix of two Englishmen, a Sicilian, a Maltan and a Sri Lankan. This diversity is reflected in the wide genre of music they play, ranging from plain and simple indie and rock to more progressive electro. All this is set off with surprisingly intelligent vocals for a fairly new band.

Their first full length record "Genesis and Catastrophe" was widely acclaimed, and the band do not disappoint with their follow - up, recent release "Leave Your Dignity at The Door EP", which got the band exposure in RockSound magazine. A smoothly crafted work of art that promises big things for the band. I'm impressed.

Stampede!

Don't let the god-awful name put you off, but The Wombats are fast moving from annoying "we're so new and shiny!" popstrels to an actual good band. The three liverpudlians are: Murph (the dog), Tord (the fox) and Dan (the rat). The Wombats play sparkling pop guitar with brilliant melodies and story-telling lyrics that are more together than conjoined twins in a shared straight-jacket.

Their tunes have had NME, Q, Spin and Uncut bursting their little skinny jeans with excitement, and I can only agree. Although nowadays it seems like everyone is picking band names from the back of a Cadbury Animals packet, I think I can forgive The Wombats for watching Jumanji a few too many times. The band have just retreated in to the studio to record their first "proper" album, which should be available in October. A mix of fuzzy electro and sharp melodic pop that could be a soundtrack to anyone's life. So I know that a lot of people know who they are but I felt this band really needed a mention for people who haven't heard them yet.

Hadouken! - The name says it all really. Five uni students who decided to start a band. James, Alice, Pilau, Chris, Nick. The only thing is. They turned out to be AMAZING.

Hadouken! are a mix of Indie, Garage and Metal, and I can promise they sound like nothing you've ever heard. Fresh, honest and liberating, their sound is making waves across the world. They are a prime example of a band who has achieved success through MySpace, currently touring and playing some major festivals, their live shows are energetic and thrilling. Glo-Stick clad teenagers and anyone in the know come to see them, not to mention a large number of big label representatives.

They've been credited by the likes of NME, Radio 1 and Mike Skinner from the Streets. So go have a listen here!

One To Watch...

One of my favourite bands at the moment...
The Ting Tings. The Ting Tings make you want to get up and start jumping.

Their song "That's Not My Name" was even bigged up by Perez Hilton and Noel Gallagher.
